Mini-Camp — Day 1

The first of three open Green Bay Packers mini-camp practices was held on Tuesday from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. The team utilized Clark Hinkle Field along Oneida Street, which they use for closed practices during the season. Ray Nitschke Field, where Training Camp is held each year, is being prepared for that use. For decades, Hinkle Field was also used for Training Camp, so this was a “throwback” to those of us who spent so many years shooting photos through the chain link fence that surrounds the field.

Players milling about before practice starts. Head Coach Mike McCarthy announced on Sunday that players with five or more years of experience were excused from the mini-camp, so the younger players and those trying to make the team get more reps on the field.

FB Aaron Ripkowski (#22) leads his teammates out for stretching exercises before practice.

T Jason Spriggs (#78) and DE Dean Lowry are undoubtedly enjoying the cool weather.

With the absence of QB Aaron Rodgers, No. 2 QB Brett Hundley is the top dog during mini-camp. Rodgers was spotted at the NBA finals game Sunday night in Oakland, Calif.

Free agent rookie QB Taysom Hill (#8) is fourth on the offseason depth chart.

The running backs work in their position drills. Fourth-round pick Jamaal Williams (#30) and seventh-round pick Devante Mays (#32) are seen in this group.

QB Joe Callahan (#6), the “star” of last year’s preseason, is back with the team. After being picked off the Packers’ practice squad by the Saints, he spent time in Cleveland before landing back in Green Bay.

Rookie TE Aaron Peck (#86) makes a catch during seven-on-seven team drills.

Two draft choices are seen here: Seventh-round pick WR Malachi Dupre (#19) and fifth-round pick WR DeAngelo Yancey (#16). In the middle is WR Geronimo Allison (#81).

WR Trevor Davis (#11) makes a catch.
